Course information

Our galaxy, the Milky Way, is but one of more than a hundred billion galaxies in the observable Universe. In what way do these galaxies differ, and what physics govern their evolution? How much do we know about the dark matter that surrounds them, or about the black holes at their centers? How did the first galaxies form, and are galaxies still forming to this very day? And what new discoveries about galaxies can we expect from the next generation of astronomical telescopes?
