Courses offered by the Language Workshop
2016-08-24 09:31
During the fall term of 2016, the Language Workshop at Uppsala University will offer two courses in English for international students. Both courses are primarily intended for free-mover students.* Exchange students will be accepted if there are spaces available.

Communicating in English: Academic Writing

Course aims: This course aims to provide students with basic skills of academic writing, including audience awareness, how to structure a text, and how to use secondary sources. Another important aim of the course is to make visible the often implicit and opaque rules and expectations of academic culture, including academic integrity and critical thinking.
Target group: This course is primarily intended for free-mover students,* rather than those who have come to Uppsala University through an exchange program. Students must be registered at Uppsala University in order to take the course.

There are no language prerequisites (apart from those necessary to be admitted to the university). Students who find it very difficult to understand spoken English are advised to contact the teacher before applying to the course.

Course format: This course consists of 7 meetings (1/every week or every other week, in the late afternoon/evening, 90 mins). Attendance is mandatory and students must inform the teacher of any absence in advance. Students who miss more than two meetings will not be able to complete the course.
The first meeting will be on Tuesday, Sept.6.

Teacher: Johanna McElwee, johanna.mcelwee@nordiska.uu.se

Communicating in English: Oral Proficiency

Course aims: This course aims to provide students with basic oral proficiency skills in English, with special regard to using English in an academic context. Focus will be placed on pronunciation, with practical pronunciation exercises in the language lab. The course also includes conversation and discussion exercises, and an oral presentation exercise.

Target group: This course is primarily intended for free-mover students,* rather than students who have come to Uppsala University through an exchange program. Students must be registered at Uppsala University in order to take the course.

Language prerequisites: There are no language prerequisites (apart from those necessary to be admitted to the university). Students who find it very difficult to understand spoken English are advised to contact the teacher before applying to the course.
Course format: This course consists of eight meetings, scheduled in the late afternoon/evening, 90 minutes. Attendance is mandatory and students must inform the teacher of any absence in advance. Students who miss more than two meetings will not be able to complete the course.
The first meeting will be on Sept. 5.

Teacher: Linnéa Anglemark, linnea.anglemark@nordiska.uu.se

More Information

More information about these courses and how to apply can be found on our website: http://www.sprakverkstaden.uu.se/kurser-engelska/

*A free mover is typically a student who pays tuition or whose tuition fee is covered by a grant. However, other students could be included in this group as well. Contact us if you are not sure whether you belong to this category.

Student e-mail to end and obligatory forwarding introduced
2016-06-03 13:33
Student email system will be terminated in 2016. In brief this means that all students will be required to forward their email to a private email address. E-mail can be forwarded in Student Portal via My profile > Forwarding e-mail.
The majority of students will not be affected by the change, as they are already forwarding their mail. Students who do not have a forwarding account (12 %) will be contacted by the University in good time before termination. New students will be asked to provide a forwarding address when they activate their student account.
Only the inboxes are terminated. The student address firstname.lastname123@student.uu.se will continue to exist. In other words, students will retain their address as long as they are students at Uppsala University. The advantage of this is that students will still be able to show they are associated with the university.
Work to terminate student email will start in June, with the introduction of obligatory forwarding for new students. The work will be completed on October 31, with the removal of student inboxes.
In connection with this termination, the student unions and the student nations will be offered function accounts in the Universitys email system Exchange, and existing function accounts will be migrated.

Har du fått ditt nya campuskort?
2016-05-25 07:57

https://mp.uu.se/web/info/stod/sakerhet/campuskort

Medborgare ska göra flyttanmälan hos Skatteverket
2015-10-19 08:33
